Dog control PSPO consultation

We are consulting on a proposed Dog Control Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO).

We are reviewing the current Dog Fouling and Dog Controls PSPOs and considering a new combined order to help address issues that affect the quality of life of residents and visitors across the borough.

Current PSPOs

The current orders under review are:

Proposed restrictions

The proposed PSPO would continue the existing restrictions requiring a person in control of a dog to:

  • remove dog faeces immediately after a dog has fouled on land within the restricted area
  • carry suitable means to remove dog faeces
  • keep dogs out of designated Dog Exclusion Areas
  • keep dogs on a lead in designated Dogs on Leads Areas
  • comply with a reasonable request from an authorised officer to place and keep a dog on a lead

Proposed new restriction

In addition to the existing requirements, the council is proposing a new restriction that would make it an offence to:

  • walk, exercise or be in charge of more than four dogs at any one time

If you are a licensed holder (such as a dog kennel owner or dog-walker), you can walk up to six dogs at any one time.

Restricted area

The proposed restricted area covers the whole borough of Waverley.
