Problems paying your council rent

I am struggling to pay my rent

Please tell us straight away if you are experiencing problems paying your rent. We are here to help you.

Rent arrears are a ‘priority debt’. You need to pay them before debts like credit cards because the consequences can be more serious - for example you could lose your home or find it hard to get housing in the future.

Please call us on 01483 523520. You can also email us: rents@waverley.gov.uk

Our team can:

  • Help you make the most of your money
  • Refer you for specialist advice to make sure you are getting all the benefits you are entitled to, or to help you if you have high levels of debt and just can't cope
  • Agree an affordable repayment plan without incurring other debts.

The housing service has set aside a pot of money to help tenants experiencing financial hardship due to the increase in rent and the cost-of-living crisis.

We will help you access any benefits, grants or charitable funds first, but can give additional financial assistance if needed.

Please contact the Rents team to seek further advice.
