Carbon Monoxide (CO) and smoke alarms

Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarms

We maintain carbon monoxide (CO) alarms in homes with a mains gas supply. These are checked and replaced, if necessary, as part of your annual gas service.

What to do if your alarm activates

Smell gas? please see National Grid Gas Safety and Emergencies or call their free phone number: 0800 111 999.

Smoke alarms

We maintain smoke alarms in all properties. It is recommended you test these once a week.

Please let us know if:

  • Your smoke alarm is expired or due to expire - we will replace it for free. Also let us know if you cannot see an expiry date so we can check it.
  • You do not have mains powered smoke alarms in at least three rooms - we will install more for you for free.

Yes, it is a mandatory requirement to keep you safe. The only circumstance in which you will not need a carbon monoxide (CO) alarm is if you do not have a gas boiler.

The alarm will be fitted in the same room as your gas boiler.

The alarms are passive and operate 24/7, 365 days a year and have a 10-year battery life.

It will be checked for operation at the start of any new tenancy and annually as part of your annual gas safety check to ensure it is working.

If you do not have a gas boiler, we will not fit a CO alarm in your property.

If you have any other gas appliance in your home, such as a gas cooker, then you are responsible for fitting and maintaining an alarm using a Gas Safe registered engineer.
