More than 270 young people took to Waverley’s skate parks last week to show off their skills at this summer’s #SkateWaverley events.
The free skate, BMX and scooter workshops, hosted by Waverley Borough Council, helped riders of all levels and abilities - aged seven to 16 - to take their skills to the next level. From starting out on the ramp as a total beginner, to perfecting much more complex tricks, all participants had a fantastic time at the workshops.
The events were held at Farnham (7 August), Cranleigh (8 August), Haslemere (10 August) and Godalming (11 August). Professional skaters, BMXers and scooter riders from King Ramps were on hand to give tuition, advice and perform the latest tricks, as well as judge the hotly contested competition.
Thomas, one of the workshop participants in Cranleigh, said: "It's been great fun, I have enjoyed learning all the tricks and the pros are really nice.”
Mayor of Waverley, Councillor Simon Inchbald, said: “The skate park workshops were excellent and it was great to see so many young people taking part – they were having so much fun and it was infectious.
“Everyone who took part had some coaching, saw some amazing stunts performed by the pros and took part in a competition with prizes, including skateboards and T-shirts.
“This year we had a lot of younger children who had never used the skate parks before. They had great fun finding out how to use the ramps and do some basic tricks.
“Don’t forget to find out what’s happening in your area over the summer on our website.”
The events were made possible thanks to our sponsors Places for People, Groundworks and Carriers for Causes.
