Draft local plan to be submitted to inspector for examination

Published Thursday, 1 December 2016

Waverley Borough Council has agreed to submit the draft Local Plan to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government for examination.

Following a meeting of the Executive and Full Council (29 November 2016) the draft plan has been produced following two public consultations, one in late 2014 and another in the summer of 2016, and sets out the key policies and overall strategy for managing and directing future development in Waverley up until 2032.

It outlines the council’s approach to delivering 519 homes per annum whilst taking into account the various constraints that affect Waverley.

The plan will be submitted to Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government before Christmas, with a schedule of proposed modifications and a summary of representations made during the consultation process.

Councillor Julia Potts, Leader of the Council, said: “The advantages of having a sound Local Plan allows Waverley Borough Council, towns and parishes and the borough’s residents to drive and shape the future of development in the borough.

“The draft plan has taken into consideration the responses we have received from two consultations and has also involved a significant amount of research. It now needs to be tried and tested by an independent examiner who will assess whether the plan has been properly prepared in the light of the representations, statistics, data and research.”
