The businesses providing the best retail, business and service experiences around the town were recognised last week (Tuesday 22 May) at an awards ceremony at the Burys.
36 local businesses were commended at the ceremony which marked the conclusion of Compete on the Street. The scheme is jointly supported by Surrey County Council, Waverley Borough Council, Godalming & District Chamber of Commerce and Godalming Town Council, in association with Shoppers Anonymous.
Compete on the Street ran in May and saw mystery shoppers visit over 40 businesses across Godalming and Farncombe who had chosen to participate in the scheme to determine who served their customers best.
The overall winners of the exceptional Platinum Standard were Ashley & Lewis, Boots Opticians, Catwalk, Cook, Godalming Food Company, Little Angel Shoes and the Phyllis Tuckwell Shop who all scored over 98% in customer satisfaction. Each business was presented with a certificate by Godalming Town Council Mayor Cllr Nick Williams and Surrey County Councillor for Godalming North, Penny Rivers.
In addition, 21 businesses were awarded gold standard certificates for outstanding service, four businesses were awarded a silver standard certificate for very good service and three businesses were awarded a bronze standard certificate for good service.
Scores were awarded against a variety of factors including window display, interior lay-out and customer service. Any retailer who scored low on the test was given formal feedback by the mystery shopping company, Shoppers Anonymous, in order to improve.
