Types of council meetings at Waverley

Standards Committee

Work of the Committee

The Standards Committee is responsible for promoting and maintaining high standards of conduct by Waverley Borough, Town and Parish Councillors. It does this by:

  • overseeing the Council's Code of Conduct for councillors and co-opted members. This is a set of rules to guide the behaviour and decisions of councillors.
  • promoting good ethical practice
  • investigating complaints made about borough, town and parish councillors that they may not have acted in accordance with the Code of Conduct.
  • reviewing and proposing revisions to the Constitution to the Council.

Membership of the Panel

The Standards Committee consists of nine Waverley councillors, three of whom would be selected to sit on a Standards Panel to conduct a hearing into an alleged breach of the Code of Conduct:

The Panel also has two town/parish representatives, one of whom would be required to attend any meeting of the Standards Panel considering a complaint about a town or parish councillor.
