Building work inspections

We need to inspect building work to check that building regulations have been complied with at relevant stages of the build.

Building owner is responsible

It is the responsibility of the building owner to notify us that work is being carried out. If you use a builder, it is common practice for them to liaise directly with the Building Control Team to book inspections, but you should agree this with them before the works start.

You must let us know about the early stages of the work (eg foundations, damp proof courses and underground drainage), particularly where the work will be concealed following inspection. We also encourage you to let us know when other works such as fire stopping, structural members and insulating materials may be inspected before being covered over.

You must also write or email to notify that works are completed. We will make a final inspection before we certify the works fully comply with the regulations and it is best to do this whilst the builder is on site.

When to contact us

Once you have submitted your application, please contact us at least two days before starting work to arrange site visits. Please email or call 01483 523323.

Book a site visit

If you contact us by 10am, Monday to Friday, we will try to attend an inspection on the same day if possible. We generally carry out visits between 10.15am and 3pm.  Call  to book 01483 523323.
