Asbestos in council owned homes

Asbestos is a natural mineral commonly used between the 1940s and 80s in a range of building materials. The use of asbestos was banned in 1999.  There is no risk from asbestos if it is in a good condition and left alone.

It can become dangerous if it is disturbed when you decorate or carry out repairs or improvements. For your safety, please ask us for advice before carrying out any work that will disturb material that may contain asbestos.
