Volunteering at the Lammas Lands

    Volunteer sessions on these floodplain meadows usually take place on the last Tuesday of the month from 10:00 – 13:00.

    Tuesday 26 March

    Tuesday 30 April

    Himalayan balsam removal: We will be pulling up this non-native invader before it has chance to spread its seed along the watercourse. Meet at Hell Ditch meadow near the railway bridge on Chalk Road, GU7 3AP.

    Tuesday 28 May

    Himalayan balsam removal: Removing any plants which escaped our attention last month. If left unchecked the balsam will quickly spread across the meadows at the expense of native vegetation. Meet at Hell Ditch meadow near the railway bridge on Chalk Road, GU7 3AP.

    Tuesday 25 June

    Ragwort pulling: We need to remove this poisonous plant from Overgone meadow to protect the grazing cattle. Meet at the Overgone Meadow entrance off of Bridge road, GU7 3DT.

    Tuesday 23 July

    Ragwort pulling: Removing the remainder of the poisonous ragwort so that it is not eaten by cattle grazing Overgone meadow. Meet at Overgone Meadow entrance off of Bridge road, GU7 3DT.

    Thursday 29 August

    Please note that this session is on a Thursday.

    Interpretation panel installation: Installing the last two interpretation panels at Catteshall and Almshouse meadows. Meet at the field gate on Catteshall Road, GU7 3DJ.
