Parking fines

We have been made aware of a scam involving text messages purporting to be from the government with a link to pay for a parking fine.

The only way a Penalty Charge Notice is served in Waverley car parks is by placing a physical notice on the windscreen or to the driver of the vehicle - we never send PCNs by post, text or email.

We do not use QR codes in any of our car parks for payment of parking fees - if you see a QR code sticker on any of our machines, do not use it.

General advice

  • Check the URL - if it doesn't begin with 'https' and it isn't what you're expecting, then don't visit it
  • Check for slight changes in the website address - scammers will often mimic an official website address in the hope you don't notice a small change
  • Be particularly vigilant if you were directed to the website from a message or online advert
  • Read the pages on the website as it may actually state that it’s not officially affiliated with the actual organisation.

If you are in any doubt as to the legitimacy of any communication you receive purporting to be from Waverley Borough Council, please contact us on 01483 523333.

You can also report scam websites to the National Cyber Security Centre.

This applies to Waverley Borough Council car parks in Cranleigh, Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere.
