Following the Prime Minister's announcement on Wednesday 22 May, the UK Parliamentary General Election will take place on Thursday 4 July 2024.

UK Parliamentary Election

for the FARNHAM AND BORDON Constituency

  1. An Election is to be held for a Member of Parliament for the Godalming and Ash constituency.
  2. Nomination papers can be obtained from the offices of the (Acting) Returning Officer, Council Offices, The Burys, Godalming, Surrey, GU7 1HR, during the times stated below. 
  3. Nominations papers must be delivered to the (Acting) Returning Officer at Council Offices, The Burys, Godalming, Surrey, GU7 1HR on any day after the date of this notice, between 10am and 4pm (excluding bank holidays) but no later than 4 pm on Friday, 7th June 2024.
  4. The £500 deposit may be paid either by means of a banker’s draft, cash or an electronic transfer of funds.
  5. If the election is contested, the poll will take place on Thursday, 4th July 2024.
  6. Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 12 midnight on Tuesday, 18th June 2024. Applications can be made online: https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
  7. Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes and amendments or cancellations of proxy votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Council Offices, The Burys, Godalming, Surrey, GU7 1HR by 5 pm on Wednesday, 19 June 2024. Applications can be made online: https://www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote
  8. Applications for a Voter Authority Certificate or an Anonymous Elector’s Document valid for this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm Wednesday, 26 June 2024. Applications for a Voter Authority Certificate can be made online: https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate. Anonymous Elector Document applications must be obtained from the Electoral Registration Officer.
  9. New applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Council Offices, The Burys, Godalming, Surrey, GU7 1HR by 5pm on Wednesday, 26 June 2024. Some applications can be made online: https://www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote.
  10. Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Council Offices, The Burys, Godalming, Surrey, GU7 1HR by 5 pm on Thursday, 4th July 2024.

When do you officially become a candidate?

The earliest you can officially become a candidate is on the date the UK Parliament is dissolved.

You will officially become a candidate on this day if, on or before this date, you have already declared yourself a candidate at the election (or another person has declared that you are a candidate).

If, after this date, you or others declare that you will be a candidate at the election, you will become a candidate on the date such a declaration is made, or on the date that you submit your nomination papers, whichever is earlier.

To stand as a candidate on Thursday 4 July 2024, you need to hand deliver your nomination papers, by appointment only, to the Acting Returning Officer, Council Offices, The Burys, Godalming, Surrey, GU7 1HR, between the hours of 10am and 4pm from Wednesday 5 June until Friday 7 June 2024.
