Waverley's Summer of Sport

There are public leisure centres in each of Waverley’s main settlements – as well as a number of private clubs. Although the sector was hard hit by the pandemic, leisure leaders are optimistic that excellent facilities, social opportunities, value for money activities and a COVID-safe environment will see an increasing number of people returning to enjoy their pre-pandemic activities.

Councillor Liz Townsend, Waverley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Parks and Leisure, said: “Summer holidays are often the time when we challenge ourselves to try out a new activity and with many of us enjoying staycations this year, Waverley’s leisure facilities present many opportunities to do something different and new.

“A game of badminton, a family swim, or soft play are great ways to keep busy and active during the school holidays – particularly on those wet weather days when you are at a loss for something to do. You never know, the experience may spark the start of the journey for even more Olympic hopefuls.”

Thanks to Government targeting the hardest hit sectors, the council has funding to promote leisure activities. Throughout the summer, there will be a campaign to get active in Waverley. This will conclude at the end of September with participating centres offering exclusive offers and discounts on many casual activities such as swimming, gym sessions and squash.
