Do you have something to say about how the borough’s parks and greenspaces are maintained?
Waverley Borough Council is, once again, giving residents a chance to give their valuable feedback and those completing the survey could be in with the chance of winning £200 in gardening vouchers.
Residents have until 5pm on Friday 11 November 2022 to take part in one of three surveys which can be found at www.waverley.gov.uk/greenspacesurvey.
The Greenspace Survey seeks to find out how well the council performed during 2022 in areas such as grass cutting, cleanliness of parks, play areas and greenspaces in general.
As a direct response to last year’s survey results, the council has already enhanced a number of areas over the past year including the setting aside of wildflower areas to benefit pollinators and a reduction in the quantity of pesticides used, and we are continuing trials of non-pesticide weed control across the borough. We are also using more electric vehicles and machinery where possible, meaning lower vehicle emissions and less noise when undertaking maintenance. In addition, all grass cuttings and pruning’s are composted and used on council sites with the surplus offered to local allotments and community gardens.
Councillor Kika Mirylees, Waverley Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for Health, Wellbeing, Parks and Leisure, said: “We are so lucky to have an abundance of wonderful green spaces in Waverley and we want to make sure that these are maintained to a high standard for our residents but also that we keep improving biodiversity too.
Feedback from our residents is vital to ensure we have a good picture of where our contractors are doing a great job or where some improvements could be made. It doesn’t take long to take part and you could even win £200 worth of gardening vouchers to spruce up your own garden too."
Waverley Borough Council manages 2.3 million square metres of green space across the borough and ten of its fantastic parks and greenspaces are recognised by the Green Flag Award scheme as some of the best in the world.
