Waverley launches Climate Change engagement hub
Do you want to have your say on how we deal with climate change?
Waverley Borough Council has launched its new climate change engagement platform.
The hub will give information on the council’s climate goals and ask people for their views on everything from the council’s Climate Change and Sustainability Strategy to Active Travel and Air Quality.
Councillor Steve Williams, Waverley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability, said:
“We need your help to reach our ambitious target to become climate neutral by 2030. On the hub, we hope you will share your ideas for reducing carbon emissions and share with us what you feel we could do to help you improve your own carbon footprint. Your opinions and ideas are important for the development and success of our climate strategy and I do hope that residents, those who work in the borough or visit our wonderful greenspaces, will get involved.
“Indeed, one of the main priorities in our new Corporate Plan is ‘A More Sustainable Borough’; this is about taking action to create a greener, healthier future for Waverley, with a focus on our goal of becoming a carbon-neutral council by 2030.
“Since declaring a climate emergency in 2019, we have already been working hard on our own greenhouse gas emissions by reducing our carbon footprint in our buildings, our transport, our greenspaces and our housing stock as well as encouraging sustainable travel but there’s always more we can do as individuals or as a community.
“Get involved and help us ensure Waverley has a sustainable and resilient future and remains a great place to live, work and thrive.”
The council has developed an Air Quality Action Plan and a Clean Air Strategy which looks to tackle air quality in the borough over the next five years. The council is also supporting Surrey Air Alliance on a project to reduce air pollution from solid fuel burning.
Waverley Borough Council continues to install Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers in our public car parks across the borough and we have a roll-out plan to install more. Along with EV chargers installed by Surrey County Council, there will be 68+ public chargers available.
There are currently 18 public EV charging bays in Waverley car parks with more to be added in due course. The council also has 20 on street charging bays as part of a major Surrey trial. You can find out more about Electric Vehicle charge points in Waverley by visiting Waverley Borough Council - Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Points in Waverley.
Waverley Borough Council is also working with SCC, town and parish councils and local active travel groups to progress Local Cycle Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs) for Farnham and Waverley.
