Waverley consults on design of Dunsfold Park

Waverley Borough Council is running a series of exhibitions as part of its consultation on a draft Supplementary Planning Document (SPD), for a new Garden Village at Dunsfold Park. If adopted, the SPD would lock in a strategic framework for building houses on the site, which would become a material planning consideration when determining any future planning applications and will apply to any new owner of the site.

Residents are being invited to comment on plans for how the new settlement will look. The SPD provides clear guidance on what is expected in terms of layout of the site and the quality, design, character and sustainability of the houses to be built there.

The SPD does not cover transport and infrastructure, as this was included in the outline planning application for the site, which was approved in 2018. The current planning permission and Section 106 agreement sets out all of the transport improvements and infrastructure – such as a primary school, health centre, police station, recreational and sports facilities and retail and commercial space – that are required to support a sustainable and thriving community.

The draft document is open for comment until Monday 20 December 2021 and several in-person events are being held this week for the community to view and comment on the document. Please see our webpage www.waverley.gov.uk/dunsfoldpark for details of these events, or to view and comment on the document online.

Councillor Liz Townsend, Waverley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Parks, Leisure and Dunsfold Park, said:

"Our vision for Dunsfold Park is set to transform the largest brownfield site in the borough into a beautiful Garden Village. The SPD sets out our expectation for a high-quality attractive and carbon-neutral new settlement, that will provide much-needed genuinely affordable housing and job opportunities locally.

"Waverley has declared a Climate Emergency, so the SPD aims to ensure that the future village will have sustainability embedded in every aspect of its planning, design and delivery.

"I would urge all those in the local area to read the consultation documents or visit one of the events and please feedback any comments that you have to us. "

Hard copies of the SPD and accompanying documents are available to be viewed at main reception, Council Offices, The Burys, Godalming GU7 1HR (by appointment only, please call 01483 523333). Alternatively, they can be viewed at Bramley and Cranleigh libraries. See www.surreycc.gov.uk/libraries for addresses and opening times.

The document is available to view online (www.waverley.gov.uk/dunsfoldpark, which will also include other associated documents and a recorded presentation), at Bramley and Cranleigh libraries (during their normal opening hours), and by appointment at main reception in The Burys
