Broadwater Park toilets win award

Date posted: 18 November 2021

Waverley Borough Council flushed with success

The toilet facilities at two of Waverley Borough Council’s greenspaces have achieved Loo of the Year Award status again.

Broadwater Park, Farncombe and Frensham Great Pond and Common have been recognised as amongst the best in the UK and Ireland winning Platinum awards in the annual Loo of the Year Awards, with Broadwater Park achieving Platinum for the first time.

The awards are aimed at highlighting and improving standards of 'away from home' toilet provision across the UK with Loo of the Year Awards inspectors making unannounced visits to thousands of toilets at sites across the UK, to judge them. All the toilets are graded silver, gold, platinum or diamond with unacceptable toilets not graded at all.

The toilets are judged against numerous criteria, including décor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment and overall management.

Framed Awards certificates are presented to winners at the Annual Awards Event on the 14 January 2022 at the National Motorcycle Museum, Solihull.

Councillor Liz Townsend, Waverley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Parks and Leisure, said: “Visitors to our parks and greenspaces expect and deserve clean, well-managed toilet facilities and we are delighted that they have received recognition; it is testament to the hard work of our contractors who maintain our sites to such a high standard.

“The awards reassure visitors that we aim to maintain all our facilities to the highest possible standard and I want to thank all the team from Illier Cleaning and Continental Landscapes who have really gone above and beyond, especially during the pandemic when hygiene and maintenance was even more crucial.”
