Waverley Borough Council financial accounts available now

Waverley Borough Council has published its financial accounts for 2023/24, and sound financial management has ensured that the council has ended the year under budget once again.

The Annual Financial Report demonstrates how the council has stewarded public money over the past financial year. The council’s total financial reserves remain sufficient to ensure the council is resilient, able to meet its obligations, and can continue to serve the community effectively, even if circumstances become challenging.

Each year the council shares its Annual Financial Report with the public to present a true and fair reflection of the council’s financial position, and the transactions that have taken place during the year.

The statement of accounts is designed to provide a clear picture of the council’s finances, such  as how much money was spent on services, where the money came from, and what the council’s assets and liabilities were at the end of the year.

Members of the public have the right to inspect, and make copies of the council’s financial accounts. The accounts can be viewed in person at the Waverley Borough Council offices at The Burys in Godalming until 8 October. People can also view the Annual Financial Report online at www.waverley.gov.uk/annualaccounts.

Councillor Mark Merryweather, Portfolio Holder for Finance, Assets and Property said:

“The publication of our Annual Financial Report is an important milestone each year because it ensures our finances are open, transparent, and shows exactly how we are managing public money.

“Despite the unprecedented financial pressures we face, we remain a resilient and well managed council, which is reflected in our financial position. Our accounts are open to you all, so I encourage everyone to view them online, or visit it us here at The Burys, if you would like to find out more about how public services are funded.”
