Warning to residents as Covid cases rise

Covid infection rates in Waverley are rising quickly again and the council is calling on everyone in the borough to do what they can to prevent the spread of the virus.

Cases are particularly high among younger adults and older teenagers with an overall increase in numbers according to the latest data.

As we approach the August bank holiday weekend where many people will be enjoying outdoor festivals and clubs, the advice remains to keep yourselves and those around you safe.

Councillor Paul Follows, Leader of Waverley Borough Council, said:

“Quite simply the Covid-19 pandemic hasn’t gone away despite the success of the vaccine programme in reducing the levels of infection. The people of Waverley have been brilliant in helping to keep infection rates down, especially with regard to getting their vaccinations; earlier in August  Waverley was one of the two areas top of the tables for vaccination take-up. Their patience throughout these challenging times has been exemplary.

“However, we are at a point where we all need to take more action. We need to keep working together to help protect ourselves, our friends, family and loved ones, our community and our NHS from this awful virus.  The best way to do this is to follow the guidance."

It is vital that you self-isolate and get tested if you have any of the symptoms of Covid-19.

Make sure you do the following to keep Waverley safe:

  • Get vaccinated. Book your vaccine here
  • Test regularly twice a week, even if you have no symptoms. Order your free rapid lateral flow tests here
  • Wear a face covering in crowded areas and on public transport
  • Be cautious and considerate of others.

Further information on staying safe is available on the Government website.
