With the festive season now upon us, Waverley Borough Council is reminding residents that it’s not only their turkeys that need stuffing but also their recycling bins! We have put together information on what you can recycle and where.
Please note, there will be changes to your bin collections over the Christmas period. Collections up to and including Tuesday 24 December 2024 will stay the same. From the 25 December, the collection will be two days behind (Wednesday collection will happen on Friday, Thursday collection will happen on Saturday). Collections will take place as usual on Monday 30 December and Tuesday 31 December. From 1 January to 3 January, collections will be one day behind. Normal collections resume from Monday 6 January 2025. You can find a table of our Christmas collection dates on our website: Waverley Borough Council - Christmas and New Year bin collections 🎄.
Christmas trees
You can recycle your real Christmas tree (if you can’t replant it) at one of our Christmas tree drop-off points from 27 December 2024 up to 17 January 2025. The drop-off points can be found at:
- Woolmer Hill Sports ground
- High Lane Recreation ground
- Village Way Car Park, Cranleigh (by basketball hoop)
- Haslemere Recreation ground
- Holloway Hill Recreation ground
- Nursery Road Car Park, Broadwater Park
- Wrecclesham Recreation ground
- Rowledge Recreation ground
- Weybourne Recreation ground
- Farnham Park
If you want to dispose of a synthetic Christmas tree, please take it to your local community recycling centre.
If you subscribe to our Garden Waste Collection Service, you can put your real Christmas tree out with your other garden waste on a collection date before the end of January.
Cards and wrapping paper
You can put wrapping paper, greeting cards and gift tags in your recycling bin as long as they do not contain any glitter, foil, plastics or embossing. Tear off these sections, as well as any badges and put in your rubbish bin. Please also remove as much sticky tape as possible.
Please remember, batteries should not be put in your rubbish bin as they are a fire risk when collected with other rubbish. Many shops that sell batteries provide recycling points in-store.
To check which bin your items go in and what you can recycle, you can visit our web page.
Food Waste
You can put all food waste in your food waste caddy, including carcasses, bones, seafood shells and nutshells.
