Last night (16 February 2023) the thirteenth Waverley Design Awards were held to celebrate the best of the Borough’s new developments.
The award ceremony was opened by Dawn Hudd, Joint Strategic Director, Place for Waverley and Guildford Borough Councils. Nominees and guests, including expert judges, gathered Charterhouse Hall, Godalming to find out who had scooped the awards which as always, attracted outstanding entries from across the borough.
The evening ceremony began with an exhibition with drinks and light refreshments, followed by the formal presentation. Expert judges, who were on hand to give out some of the awards, included Laith Anayi, a local architect and past Chair of RIBA South East, Mark Gower, the Course Leader for Interior Architecture and Design at the University of Creative Arts in Farnham; Heather Kerswell, a prominent town planner, previous Chief Executive at Mole Valley and previous Conservation Officer at Waverley Borough Council; Jo Saady, Director of Ecotecture who specialises in sustainable new developments and the historic environment, and Councillor Liz Townsend BEM, Waverley Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Planning and Economic Development.
Councillor Liz Townsend BEM said: “The Waverley Design Awards are an opportunity to recognise the vision and hard work of architects, designers, and builders who are making a significant contribution to the built environment in our area. The winning projects demonstrate a commitment to excellence, sustainability, and enhancing the quality of life for our residents.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and nominees of the Waverley Design Awards. Your contributions have not only enriched our built environment but have also helped to create a sense of community and pride in our local area. I look forward to seeing what you will achieve in the future, and I hope that your work will inspire others to strive for excellence in their own designs."
The awards were introduced in 1995 by Waverley Borough Council to encourage interest in the quality of the borough’s built and natural environment and to promote an awareness of the need for high quality design.
