The Friday Night Project set to relaunch in Cranleigh this week

A popular club for young people in Cranleigh ‘The Friday Night project’ which gives young people the chance to get together with friends and take part in a range of activities, is set to relaunch at the end of the week.

Starting 7 January 2022, The Friday Night Project (FNP) will take place every Friday from 5pm to 8pm at Cranleigh Leisure Centre, giving young people aged 11-18 access to leisure activities for £4 (£2 with a Waverley Access to Leisure Card).

Activities include gym, squash, exercise classes, table tennis, pool and instructor-led virtual spin classes.

Councillor Liz Townsend, Waverley Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Parks and Leisure says:

“I am delighted that the award winning Cranleigh Friday Night Project is relaunching. This previously had considerable success in Cranleigh and was supported by a really great team of volunteers. Research shows how important it is for us all to lead active lives for both our physical and mental health. This has been a real issue for our young people during the pandemic when a lot of the usual activities that they took part in were cancelled.

“The Friday Night Project is a really positive initiative that offers an opportunity to get involved in a number of new activities, socialise with other young people, and all at a very reasonable cost. I hope that those who used to attend will come back and if you’ve not been before come along and give it a try.”

The project is jointly funded by Waverley Borough Council, Active Surrey, the Community Foundation for Surrey and Places Leisure and is part of an innovative strategy from Waverley Borough Council to engage with young people in the community.

The Friday Night Projects are reliant on volunteers to successfully run and become sustainable. It is a very rewarding role. If you are interested in volunteering at any of our projects (Cranleigh, Farnham, Godalming), please get in touch with the Leisure Team via leisure@waverley.gov.uk
