Share your views on the council’s Statement of Community Involvement

Waverley Borough Council is inviting people to have their say on how they can be involved in the planning process. The council has produced an updated Statement of Community Involvement, and it is open for public consultation until Friday 19 April.

The Statement of Community Involvement is an important planning document that sets out how and when the council will involve and consult with the community and stakeholders in the preparation of planning policy documents (including the new Local Plan) and during the planning application process.

The consultation is the first to take place on CommonPlace, the council’s new online engagement platform.

CommonPlace makes it simple for residents to share their thoughts and ideas with the council, helping to shape the places where they live, work, and play. It is a way for the council to share plans, designs and useful information with people at an early stage, and gather valuable feedback from local communities.

Residents can view the new Statement of Community Involvement and provide feedback at www.waverley.gov.uk/newlocalplan. There is also the opportunity for people to share their views on what the Local Plan should contain, and help the council develop a vision for the future of the borough.

Paper copies of the Statement of Community Involvement will be available at the council offices and public libraries from 8 March to 19 April.

Councillor Liz Townsend, Waverley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Planning and Economic Development said:

“Effective community engagement is really important because it helps us to gather different perspectives and make informed decisions that are shaped by local communities.

“The Statement of Community Involvement is our way of clearly setting out how you can get involved with the development of our Local Plan, and with other planning matters.

“This is your chance to make sure our Statement of Community Involvement contains appropriate measures for engaging with you. Please visit www.waverley.gov.uk/newlocalplan to register your details and have your say.”
