New Household Support Fund to help vulnerable households this winter

Waverley residents struggling financially from the impact of COVID-19 can take advantage of new Government funding this winter that has been designed to support the recovery from the pandemic and offer help where it is needed most.

The Household Support Fund was announced by the Government in late autumn to support vulnerable households and is designed to help ease financial pressures on residents by providing short-term help over the winter period with food, fuel bills as well as other essentials. Waverley Borough Council has been given £243,000 to provide assistance to individuals and families who are:

  • facing immediate financial difficulties
  • a household living in Waverley
  • struggling to pay essential household bills

Applications are open until 31 March 2022 or until all funds have been allocated, whichever is the earlier. Waverley Borough Council is working with local organisations to provide the support to residents on the council’s behalf and details can be found on our Financial Support for Residents webpage.

Councillor Kika Mirylees, Waverley Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for Health, Wellbeing and Culture, said:

“I am delighted that this funding has been made available so we can support even more households who are struggling to cope financially with the cost of essential items this winter.

“The Household Support Fund is an additional measure we have put in place to help families or individuals who need help to recover from what has been and continues to be, an extremely challenging time for many. I urge those who are in need of some extra assistance, to check if they are eligible, and apply.”
