New business recovery working group set up to inform and advise Bramley businesses

In response to the petrol contamination incident in Bramley, a new Business and Economy Recovery Working Group has been established to support local businesses.

The initiative is a crucial part of the local resilience forum’s recovery plan, chaired by Waverley Borough Council.  The group met for the third time this week at Bramley Golf Club (Tuesday 6 August) to share with local businesses the latest progress on remediation works, to provide feedback on how they are being impacted and to inform activities to support the local business community.

Asda also attended to set out their approach to supporting those affected in Bramley through compensation and other initiatives.

Councillor Liz Townsend BEM, Waverley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Planning and Economic Development, said:

“It was encouraging to see so many people attend and get involved in the discussions. The objectives of the working group are to help local businesses build back to the trading levels they had prior to the fuel leak; this relies on restoring full amenities, rebuilding business and consumer confidence as well as establishing an independent business network in collaboration with Bramley Parish council to promote long-term destination marketing.

“We recognise that it has been an extremely challenging time for Bramley businesses. This group establishes a regular and collaborative communication channel with our business community that will carry on for as long as it’s needed to help those businesses recover.”

The Business and Economy Recovery Working Group will continue to meet on a regular basis to ensure it progresses its aims and objectives for the local community.
