New affordable homes in Ewhurst

Waverley Borough Council took handover of four new build homes as part of the development at The Green, Ewhurst.

The homes were delivered via Section 106 agreements with the developer Brookworth Homes, and form part of the council's Affordable Homes Delivery Strategy; to deliver affordable homes below market rent to alleviate the pressures of the housing crisis on Waverley residents.  Two 1-bed maisonettes, a 2-bed house, and a 3-bed house, have been let at affordable rent to residents currently on the Housing Register

The event was attended by the Managing Director of Brookworth Homes, Mayor of Waverley and Waverley councillors and other stakeholders, who celebrated the successful completion of the new homes with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting and handover of the keys to the properties.

The Mayor, Councillor John Ward said: “I am delighted to receive the keys to these homes on behalf of the council. Across the borough, people are struggling to access housing as the national housing crisis deepens with high rents and unaffordable homes. These houses represent the council’s determination to explore all options open to us, to improve the availability of affordable housing for local people, amidst the wider picture of worsening housing market failure.

“We have also committed to continue to build more affordable homes ourselves, to help ensure suitable, good quality housing is available across the borough for people at all income levels. “
