Mayor of Waverley's message to the people of flood-hit Mayen-Koblenz

On behalf of the residents of the Borough of Waverley may I convey our condolences to our twin borough and the people of Mayen-Koblenz and the whole region that has been affected by the terrible floods.

We very much want to let you know that you are in our thoughts and prayers and that we stand in solidarity with you in dealing with the aftermath of these events.

We are especially mindful of those who have died, their families and for those who have lost their homes, businesses and livelihoods. Also, the fact that many have lost the most basic amenities that we so easily take for granted. It is very difficult for us to comprehend the devastating impact that this has had on people’s lives and we offer our support to you during these most challenging of times.

The issue of climate change naturally comes to mind when we witness extreme weather like this and like you, we are determined to continue our work to look after our environment and take those measures that will secure a safer world for future generations.

Please be assured that you are our friends and neighbours and we stand ready to assist and support you in whatever way we can.

Yours sincerely,

Councillor John Robini

Mayor of Waverley Borough Council
