Learn lessons from the experts and make your new business a success in 2023

Budding entrepreneurs thinking about launching a business in 2023 can increase their chance of success with an initiative supported by Waverley Borough Council.

How to Start a Business is a free, online workshop for anybody who wants to set up and run their own business. The first three-hour workshop is on 20 January from 9.30-12.30pm; it will be repeated monthly throughout 2023. Independent business mentor Andy Pringle from IncuHive will take participants through many topics including the reality of running a business, the pitfalls and how to avoid them, business planning, cashflow forecasting and legal and tax obligations.

Councillor Liz Townsend, Waverley Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Development says: “This free workshop is ideal for anybody who has a business idea which they want to take to the next stage. Starting a business is fairly easy but keeping it going and making a profit is a different matter.

“IncuHive has worked with hundreds of start-ups which is one of the reasons why we chose them to partner with us and provide a business support and advice service to existing Waverley businesses and new businesses wanting to get off the ground.”

Andy Pringle says: “Setting up a business so it heads in the right direction from the beginning is much easier than trying to get it on course later on. Throughout the workshop, I will share the experiences of numerous people who have set up businesses in the past so that participants can learn from what they got right and avoid the things that they discovered did not work so well.”

Everybody who takes part in the workshop will receive a free start-up pack containing templates and useful factsheets. Waverley businesses will also have access to free ongoing business support should they wish to use it.
