How Waverley residents can show their respects on Remembrance Sunday

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it will not be possible to mark this special day in the usual ways.

However, you can recognise the day whilst following the government guidance around social distancing and keeping yourself and others safe.

For those wishing to show their respect at 11am on Sunday 8 November and on Wednesday 11 November (Armistice Day), why not take part in the two minute silence on your doorstep or inside your homes? A national service will be televised as well.

Some churches may be hosting small services according to COVID-19 guidelines. Contact organisations directly to find out if they are live streaming their service.

The Royal British Legion (RBL) have said that they will not be requesting any road closures this year across Surrey. They are putting in arrangements to ensure that any wreath laying will be private with no more than six people present. The RBL standard-bearer may attend along with a small group. Standard bearers have been instructed that they are not to take part in any parade but may participate from a static position either lining the route or at the memorial itself.

You can back their Poppy Appeal in a new way to adapt to the threat of Covid-19. Please visit the Royal British Legion website for key ways to get involved and support - from fundraising and taking part in virtual Poppy Runs, to ordering poppies and buying poppy merchandise from their Poppy Shop.
