Green flags fly again for Waverley!

Waverley Borough Council is delighted to celebrate 11 of its fantastic parks and greenspaces being recognised, once again,  by the Green Flag Award Scheme,  as some of the best in the world.

The winning greenspaces are:  Weybourne Nature Reserve, Badshot Lea Pond and Orchard, Bealeswood Common, Blackheath Common, Broadwater Park, Farnham Park, Frensham Common, Lammas Lands, Mare Hill, Phillips Memorial Park and Summerlands Estate.

Farnham Park is also a recipient, once again, of a Green Heritage Site Accreditation supported by Historic England, for the management of its historic features.

The green spaces which are all managed by the council, are among 2,227 parks and green spaces across the UK that received a prestigious award this year.

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.

Councillor Steve Williams, Waverley Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability, said:

“We are delighted that once again, our beautiful parks and green spaces have been recognised in these prestigious awards.  The ongoing hard work and dedication of our Parks and Countryside team ensure that our sites remain at such a high standard and, of course, it is also down to the efforts of our contractors and our wonderful volunteers.”
