Eligible businesses can apply for new coronavirus business grants

Waverley Borough Council has secured further government funding to support businesses severely affected by the spread of the Omicron variant. Two new grants are open to eligible businesses, the Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant and the Additional Restrictions Grant. Further information on these grants, including eligibility requirements, funding allocations and application deadlines, are available on our coronavirus business grants webpage.

The Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant is a scheme to support Hospitality, Leisure and Accommodation businesses who have had their trading impacted by the recent surge in Covid cases because of the new Omicron variant.

This is a one-off grant scheme commencing from Thursday 30 December 2021 with applications closing on 18 March 2022.

Grants are available for businesses that have a Business Rates account as of Thursday 30 December 2021 and operate within the Leisure, Hospitality and Accommodation sectors. The full list of eligible businesses are available on our coronavirus business grants webpage.

Businesses will only be eligible where their main service falls within hospitality, leisure, or accommodation. If your business operates services that could be considered hospitality, leisure or accommodation, and falls into another category, the main service will be determined by assessing which category constitutes 50% or more of the overall income.

For the purpose of this scheme the following exclusions apply:

  • Hospitality - the definition of a hospitality business should exclude food kiosks and businesses whose main service (generating 50% or more of income) is a takeaway
  • Leisure - the definition of a leisure business should exclude all retail businesses, coach tour operators, and tour operators
  • Accommodation - the definition of an accommodation business should exclude private dwellings, education accommodation, residential homes, care homes, residential family centres and beach huts.

The deadline for applications for the Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant is on 18 March 2022.

Waverley Borough Council must carry out pre-payment checks, so please allow up to 14 days before you receive a decision and payment.

Additional Restrictions Grant

Waverley Borough Council has secured further government funding, which it will use to support local businesses based in Waverley, which have been severely affected following the increased infections since December 2021 due to the spread of the Omicron variant. Applications will close on 18 March 2022.

The income/turnover of the business must be shown to have decreased by at least 50% since December 2021 due to the spread of the Omicron variant.

Applications will be open to all businesses that are not eligible to receive the Omicron Hospitality & Leisure Grant, although we will prioritise those applications from businesses who missed out on earlier grant schemes as well as:

  • businesses which supply the retail, hospitality, and leisure sectors
  • businesses in the events sector
  • businesses involved in the travel industry

The deadline for applications for the Additional Restrictions Grant is on 18 March 2022.
