Dementia Action Week

Dementia Action Week is a national event organised by Alzheimer's Society, which takes place from Monday 17 to Friday 21 May raising awareness and encouraging people to get involved in helping improve the lives of those affected by dementia.

In the UK, more than 1,000,000 people are living with dementia, a condition that that affects not just the person concerned but their friends and family too.

As part of the Week, The Hunter Centre in Haslemere is opening a temporary information hub to mark the week. You can pop in and find out more about dementia and support.

In addition, on Wednesday 19 May, there will be a Virtual Dementia Tour Bus in Haslemere which will allow people to take part in an interactive experience to help understand what it’s like living with dementia. You can find out more on both by visiting The Hunter Centre website

Dementia Connect is a new personalised support service from the Alzheimer’s Society for Surrey residents affected by dementia.  It offers support ranging from advice on coping and living with dementia, making your home dementia-friendly, help navigating social services, connection to local groups and more.

To find out more on the support we can offer to older adults, including our Careline pendant alarms, community meals and staying active, you can visit our Support for Older Adults web page.

If you are concerned about falling or have fallen and want to build your confidence, you can also access a range of Let’s Get Steady videos or order a free DVD on the NHS Surrey Heartlands website.
