Council shows support for International Women’s Day

Today, Friday 8 March, we celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) 2024, a day to recognise the achievements of women and inspire others to understand and value women's inclusion,

This year, the theme is  #Inspire Inclusion and Waverley Borough Council is encouraging residents to strike the IWD pose -  International Women's Day 2024 (internationalwomensday.com) and share their stories or thoughts on what the day means to them.    Residents can share their stories by using the hashtags #IWD2024 #InspireInclusion and tag @WaverleyBC.

Council staff, meanwhile, have been invited to a ‘Time to Talk’ session led by WBC’s Women’s Development and Menopause Champions which will explore what more can be done to inspire, support and better equip women wishing to progress their careers. Strategic Director for Waverley and Guildford, Dawn Hudd will also share her journey to senior management and the challenges (and successes) along the way.

In addition, Waverley’s dedicated business website is shining the spotlight on the number of successful women-led businesses in the borough, To find out more, visit Case studies of women in business (businesswaverley.co.uk)

Cllr Kika Mirylees, Waverley Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Services, Leisure and EDI, says:

“It is wonderful to be supporting International Women’s Day once again, such a great opportunity to focus on all the inspirational women in the borough, inside and outside the council.  We are proud to have a strong representation of women’s voices and talents at Waverley, however, there is always more that can be done. We are committed to improving gender equality, and to reflecting the diversity of the communities we serve, at all levels of the workforce.”
