Community Governance Review on towns and parishes in Waverley

Waverley Borough Council is seeking your views on a Community Governance Review of towns and parishes which it is carrying out during 2022.

The Review is a legal process to look at the governance arrangements of towns and parishes in the Waverley Borough area and a way of ensuring that the views of Waverley residents and interested groups in the borough are represented. It will consider options such as creating, merging, altering or abolishing parishes, the naming of parishes, electoral arrangements and more.

Councillor Paul Follows, Leader of Waverley Borough Council, said: "Our towns and parishes are a vital part of local democracy; during the Local Government Boundary Commission's review of electoral arrangements for the Borough Council, a number of issues arose relating to town and parish councils that those councils have asked us look at. The Government gives the responsibility of carrying out the Community Governance Review to us and it is important to respond to any concerns that have may have arisen from the Boundary Review. I would encourage all those who have an interest to get involved so that we can make sure the views of those who live in the borough are properly represented."

The first stage of the Review will take place between 17 January to 25 February 2022. Full information on the Review, further details on how to make a written representation and a copy of the council's Terms of Reference can be viewed and downloaded from Waverley Borough Council - Community Governance Reviews

Those wishing to make a written representation, can complete the Consultation document and return it via email to cgr@waverley.gov.uk or post it to: Corporate Policy, Waverley Borough Council, The Burys, Godalming GU7 1HR

Recommendations arising from the review will be published in August this year after going to Full Council.
