Business Question Time – Free event for Guildford and Waverley businesses

Guildford and Waverley businesses are being invited to the second year of a free networking event where they can get valuable advice and guidance about current issues and opportunities faced by the business sector.

Organised by Guildford and Waverley Borough Councils, Business Question Time,  which was last held in 2022, takes place on Monday 3 June at the University of Surrey from 5-7pm.

The event will be hosted and chaired by Professor Amelia Hadfield, Associate Vice President for External Engagement in the Department of Politics at the University of Surrey. The keynote speech this year will be given by leading economist Vicky Pryce, Chief Economic Adviser at the Centre for Economics and Business Research, who will set the scene on the national and regional economic forecast for local businesses.

A panel of experienced business leaders from across Guildford and Waverley representing a range of sectors will also be on hand to answer questions from the audience. Reserve your space by visiting the EventBrite webpage.

Panellists include Rupert Thompson, Managing Director, Hogs Back Brewery; Liana Fricker, Founder, Inspiration Space; Steve Cuss, Founder, The Gameplan Consultancy; Doug Johnson, Director, Mesh Energy; Prof. Sophy Smith, Director of Games & Creative Technologies, University for the Creative Arts and Dawn Hudd, Joint Strategic Director, Guildford Borough Council & Waverley Borough Council.

Participants are invited to send in any questions they might have – on topics such as  becoming net-zero, business growth, digital, funding, upskilling your workforce or others -  in advance by emailing business.support@waverley.gov.uk.

The councils’ Joint Strategic Director Dawn Hudd, said: “Times are tough for business owners, locally and nationally. With ever increasing energy prices, recruitment issues, and the on-going cost-of-living crisis, running a business can sometimes feel like a lonely place to be. We are, once again, bringing together those who have considerable business experience with those who might need guidance and advice and we hope many local businesses will attend.”

Professor Amelia Hadfield, said: “It’s an absolute pleasure for the Department of Politics’ Centre for Britain and Europe to host Guildford and Waverley Business Question Time 2024. This event brings together a host of cutting edge, highly impactful business leaders who work hard to make Guildford and Waverley a thriving business community, giving them the opportunity to share insights and build strategic opportunities.“

There will be a networking opportunity with drinks and canapés after the question and answer session. Attendees will also receive an information pack designed to help businesses tackle the current challenges.
