Be the change you want to see in Waverley!

What are you passionate about in your local area? Do you want Waverley to be the cleanest and greenest place to live, work and visit in Southeast England? Do you want to ensure that residents receive the services that they need, when they need them? Or perhaps you want to make Waverley a welcoming place for people from across the globe and be recognised for its outstanding urban planning and design and infrastructure?

Waverley Borough Council needs people from all backgrounds and experiences who reflect the communities they serve to put themselves forward for local elections taking place in 2023. Whatever needs changing in your local area, you could be the person to change it by becoming a councillor.

Local councillors are the elected representatives of Waverley Borough Council and their respective Ward whose decisions affect the lives of everyone in the area in countless ways. Representing a population of over 128,000 people across the borough, understanding the issues and concerns local people face and taking action are the most important tasks that any councillor undertakes.

You don’t need to have any academic qualifications to become a councillor, all you need is passion for the community that you live or work in. Whatever your background and journey in life has been, you may have what it takes to be the change that you want to see in Waverley.

Councillor John Ward, the Mayor of Waverley Borough Council said; “The beauty of a democracy is that it is a system in which we can all participate. I understand that at times people may feel powerless, but I’d like to assure everyone that they are anything but!”

He added; “Serving Waverley as a councillor for the past 15 years has been one of the greatest privileges of my life and whilst the job of being a councillor isn’t easy, it is incredibly rewarding. If you’re passionate about making a change and serving this community, I strongly urge you to consider putting your name forward today. We especially want young people to stand for election so that their interests can be better represented"

If you want to make a difference in your local community, consider standing to be a councillor. The council needs people who are capable, energetic and engaged, with a commitment to local people and a passion for change.
