Ask me about Domestic Abuse Webinars

Guildford and Waverley Community Safety Partnerships and the South-West Surrey Domestic Abuse Service are hosting an online event for members of the public, business owners and community leaders to discuss the impact of domestic abuse and how to tackle the issue.

1 in 3 women will experience domestic abuse at some point in their adult lives and as many as 1 in 6 men. We aim to raise awareness of domestic abuse and local support services available across South-West Surrey and provide participants with the knowledge to:

  • Understand why we need to break the silence on domestic abuse

  • Be confident to recognise indicators of domestic abuse and in particular, coercive control

  • Know how to support a friend, family member or work colleague that may be experiencing domestic abuse

  • Consider becoming a local Domestic Abuse Champion

The webinar will take place at 1.00pm on 29 November and 7.00pm on 6 December, lasting approximately one hour. There will be speakers from South-West Surrey Domestic Abuse Service and Surrey Police. You can book your place using the links below.

Councillor Penny Marriott, Waverley Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Safety said: “Domestic abuse has resulted in generations of people suffering in silence at the hands of abusive partners, and we as a society must reckon with that fact. We have to address domestic abuse with the same seriousness as all violent criminal acts and offer victims as many avenues as possible out of situations which leave them powerless. I implore anyone who is suffering from abuse in their home to seek help immediately, some of which will be presented in these webinars, which I encourage victims to attend.”

If you are a victim of domestic abuse, please don’t hesitate to contact Surrey’s Domestic Abuse Helpline on 01483 776822, lines are open 9am to 9pm, 7 days a week provided by YourSanctuary. In an emergency, please contact 999 or if a non-emergency call 101.
