Report fraud and corruption

Though we have robust systems in place to prevent fraud and corruption, we need your help to raise any concerns you may have about fraud. 

This includes suspicions of people:

  • falsely claiming for something they aren't entitled to, eg council tax support or right-to-buy
  • committing housing tenancy fraud
  • improper conduct or concerns about a contractor.

All reports will be treated in the strictest confidence without fear of recrimination.

Fraud

Fraud is a type of criminal activity defined as "abuse of position or false representation, or prejudicing someone's right for personal gain.

Put simply, fraud is an act of deception for personal gain or to cause a loss to another party.

The general criminal offence of fraud can include:

  • deception whereby someone knowingly makes a false representation, or
  • they fail to disclose information, or
  • they abuse a position.

National fraud reporting

Action Fraud is the UK's national fraud and internet crime reporting centre. It provides a central point of contact for information about fraud and financially motivated internet crime. If you have been scammed, ripped off or conned, get in touch with Action Fraud.

Corruption

Corruption is influencing or rewarding decision takers for personal gain. 

It can take many forms and may be carried out by a wide range of people such as Waverley's customers, contractors, staff and councillors.

What happens after your report it?
